Member of Australia’s House of Representatives speaks about cultural genocide committed against Armenians by Ottoman Empire

YEREVAN, MARCH 2, ARMENPRESS. Member of House of Representatives of Australia Tim Wilson raised the issue of the cultural genocide committed against Armenians by the Ottoman Empire, reports “Armenpress”.

In his speech Wilson said during the years of the Armenian Genocide except massacring Armenians, attempt was also made to destroy the Armenian culture.

“It was a deliberate attempt to not just remove Armenians, but also their memory by destroying the Armenian heritage and culture, such as art works and architecture. In short, it was not just a human genocide, it was also a cultural genocide”, he said.

Wilson stated that the evidence of the elimination of the Armenian culture is in the official website of the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute. “The goal of the Ottoman Empire was to erase the life and memories of the Armenian people”, he said, stating that all must be committed to the cause that the incident will never be repeated. Tim Wilson said the fact of being an Armenian with a quarter as well has its role in maintaining constant interest towards the issue.
