Turkey appoints ambassador to Israel after six-year standoff

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 16, ARMENPRESS. After six-year standoff, official Ankara appointed ambassador to Israel, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said ahead of visiting Pakistan, Hurriyet reports.

Kemal Okem has been appointed ambassador of Turkey to Israel, who was the government’s foreign policy adviser during the time of Ahmet Davitoglu’s being as Prime Minister.

Erdogan recalled that on the eve Israel also appointed ambassador to Turkey. He said the ambassadors will assume their posts on November 16.

Relations between the two states were severed in 2010, after Israeli Marines killed 10 Turkish pro-Palestinian activists who attempted to enter Gaza in breach of the blockade. The ship has not been subject to the requirements to pass the test of Israeli customs, and 9 Turkish citizens were killed as a result of the Israeli military shootings.
