YEREVAN, JULY 18, ARMENPRESS. Supporters of Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who has Islamist inclinations, started to dismantle the statues of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the secular Republic of Turkey.

“Armenpress” reports the social network users have posted photos of the first statues that became the target of the vandals.

Desecrations of Atatürk’s statues started after “Justice and Development” party with Islamists views headed by Recep Tayyip Erdoğan came to power in 2002.
