Turkish MFA issues announcement over Pope’s visit to Armenia

YEREVAN, JUNE 27, ARMENPRESS. Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkey issued an announcement over Pope Francis’ statements on the Armenian Genocide during his visit in Armenia.

As “Armenpress” reports, official Ankara considered unacceptable the Pope’s statements.

In particular, the Turkish MFA’s announcement says the visit to the Armenian Genocide Memorial, the statements on the Genocide, the joint statement with Catholicos of All Armenians once again show “Pope Francis’ unconditional commitment to the Armenian stories which do not correspond with the 1915 historical realities”.

Official Ankara called “biased” Pope Francis’ approaches towards the historical events.

The Turkish MFA’s announcement also stated that Pope Francis’ visit to Armenia “did not contribute to the establishment of peace and stability in the South Caucasian region”.
