YEREVAN, JUNE 6, ARMENPRESS. After the adoption of the Armenian Genocide recognition resolution by the Bundestag, all MPs with Turkish origin started to receive death threats, German Die Zeit informs.
Alliance 90/The Greens MP Özcan Mutlu announced that all Turkish MPs of the German Bundestag started to receive unprecedented large number of threats.
It is important to state that after the adoption of the Genocide resolution, Mayor of Ankara Melih Gökçek, who is famous for his anti-Armenian approaches, posted a photo of all Turkish MPs of the Bundestag in his Twitter microblog. The picture was widely shared by a number of users with such means trying to more target the Turkish MPs of Germany.
Özcan Mutlu said Turkish Mayor’s such step can be viewed as a call to start some actions against the Turkish ruling elite. “Many died in Turkey by such crazy reasons”, Mutlu said.
Co-Chairman of the Alliance 90/The Greens Cem Özdemir, who was one of the initiators of the Armenian Genocide recognition resolution, was also among the Turkish Bundestag MPs being threatened.
His official representative said Cem Özdemir has never been so threatened as he was after the adoption of the resolution.
They told the German Federal Security service about the problem. Security measures are heightened near Ozdemir’s house.
The German Bundestag adopted the Armenian Genocide recognition resolution, which is entitled "Remembrance and commemoration of the genocide of Armenians and other Christian minorities in 1915 and 1916".
Only one MP voted against the adoption, and one abstained.
Speakers were unanimously stressing the need of facing the past, also for contributing the reconciliation between Armenia and Turkey.
The Bundestag voiced the crime of the Ottoman Turkey, and stressed this step is neither an accusation nor a claim, but a tribute to the memory of the victims.
