YEREVAN, APRIL 23, ARMENPRESS. In recent years “Aurora” prize and “Aurora” ceremony expressions are being frequently heard in the mass media and in talks of ordinary citizens. This award, which is going to be given annually on April 24, aims to change the world and also to become a Nobel Prize of Armenian Peace. Numerous famous figures arrived in Armenia to participate in this ceremony, including actor George Clooney and legendary singer Charles Aznavour. Before the ceremony, “Armenpress” presents the history of the Award, why it is called “Aurora” and what kind of surprises the organizers of this initiative have prepared.
Why Aurora?
The award is called by the name of Aurora (Arshaluys) Mardiganyan. She was a child when she witnessed her father’s and brothers’ killings during the time of the Armenian Genocide. Overcoming all dangers, she managed to stay alive and told the world about the hostilities of 1915.
Who are the founders of “Aurora” Prize?
The Aurora Prize for Awakening Humanity is the humanitarian initiative led by the founders of 100 LIVES initiative Vartan Gregorian, Ruben Vardanyan and Noubar Afeyan. The founders try to create a new humanitarian world movement.
On behalf of the survivors of the Armenian Genocide and in gratitude to their saviors, the Aurora Prize for Awakening Humanity will be granted annually to an individual whose actions have had an exceptional impact on preserving human life and advancing humanitarian causes.
Who will award the “Aurora” Prize?
Co-chair of Selection Committee George Clooney will award the “Aurora” Prize to the winner during the ceremony in Yerevan, on April 24.
The Aurora Prize Laureate will be honored with a US $100,000 award. In addition, that individual will have the unique opportunity to continue the cycle of giving by selecting an organization that inspired their work to receive a US $1,000,000 grant.

The four finalists of the Award are Marguerite Barankitsefrom Burundi,Tom Catenafrom Sudan, Syeda Ghulam Fatima from Pakistan, Father Bernard Kinvifrom Central African Republic.
Who can win the Prize?
The Aurora Prize for Awakening Humanity is a new global award that will be given annually to individuals who put themselves at risk to enable others to survive. Recipients will be recognized for the exceptional impact their actions have made on preserving human life and advancing humanitarian causes, having overcome significant challenges along the way.
