Economic activity rises by 5.5% in Armenia

YEREVAN, APRIL 20, ARMENPRESS. Armenian economic activity index for January-March 2016 surpassed the index of the same period of the previous year by 5.5%. The index rose by 13.8% in March 2016 compared to February. “Armenpress” reports the National Statistical Serviceofthe Republic of Armenia has introduced the current-operative preliminary main macro-economic indicators characterizing thesocio-economic situationofArmenia. Trade and foreign trade turnover have dropped.
Trade turnover, foreign trade and construction have dropped. Consumer price index has declined by 1.4%, index of the price of industrial production increased by 3.9%. Construction volume decreased by 2.2% compared to the same period of the previous year. There is a 5% rise in electricity production. Service volume (trade excluded) rose by 9.6% and the gross agricultural production increased by 3.3%.
In the period of January-March 2016, trade turnover declined by 1.1% against the same period of 2015 and amounted 434billiona and 552.9 million drams. Industrial production grew by 8.9 percent, amounting 305 billion 307.9 million AMD. Average monthly wage increased by 3.5% (181 thousand and 667 drams).
Foreign trade turnover reduced by 3.8% (997.1 million USD) while exports drastically increased by 26.3% (375.9 million USD) and imports dropped by 15.9% (621.2 million USD). US exchange rate against the dram was 488.67 during January-March.
