YEREVAN, JANUARY 22, ARMENPRESS. Iran hopes to join the World Trade Organization this year. “Armenpress” reports Iranian President Hassan Rouhani's chief of staff Mohammad Nahavandian told Sputnik, calling to expedite the process.

The European Union, the United Nations and partially the United States lifted onJanuary 16 their sanctions againstthe Islamic republic afterthe International Atomic Energy Agency verified Tehran’s compliance withthe nuclear agreement.

"I hope so," he said when asked if Iran could become a member ofthe WTO in2016.

He said that the request has already been sent. Iran is currently an observer inthe organization.

"The only thing is that a working party has tobe held. And I think that will be expedited," he said.
