YEREVAN, OCTOBER 19, ARMENPRESS. Azerbaijanis fighting in Syria and Iraq in the ranks of the “Islamic State” and other armed terrorist groups are a serious problem for Aliyev’s regime. “Armenpress” reports that political scientist Sergey Minasyan told the journalists about this. “In case of some peculiar developments, serious troubles can arise for Azerbaijan, especially at the time when Azerbaijan has encountered the problem of drop in oil and gas revenues, social tension grows in the country. Hence, Islamic or other moods can become a serious problem for the ruling administration”, the political scientist said, adding that those problems will have no impact on Azerbaijan’s policies over Artsakh problem. “I have doubts, as anything linked to Artsakh problem and anti-Armenian hysteria is organized at state level, and is one of the main basis for the legitimacy and stability of Azerbaijani regime”, Sergey Minasyan mentioned.
At the same time the scientist noted that the drop in oil and gas revenues will impact Azerbaijan’s mid-term military capabilities. Besides, in the given situation the steps of the weakening and unstable Azerbaijan may turn unpredictable. “If until now we dealt with a rich or richening country, which tried to use its resources to influence the Armenian sides, change the military-political, military-technical balance, impact the international society, in the coming years we may have another problem, when unstable Azerbaijan can be unpredictable even in regard of resuming military operations for Artsakh”, Sergey Minasyan said, adding that it will create a situation where the containment policy of the Armenian sides will become useless. “If up till now we dealt with a centralized state, which realized the price of a possible war and imagined the possible losses, in case of an unstable and decentralized state, military threats can arise from lower levels”, Sergey Minasyan concluded.
