Karekin II: Fascism leaders were encouraged by universal oblivion of Armenian genocide

ETCHMIADZIN, OCTOBER 16, ARMENPRESS. His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians sent his message to the organizers and participants of the international conference “Armenian Genocide – 100: From recognition to compensation” launched by the initiative of the national Academy of Sciences and Yerevan State University. His GraceBishop Arshak Khachatryan represented the speech of His Holiness Karekin II. As the press service of the Mother See informed “Armenpress”, the message reads:

“Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin welcomes and blesses all the participants of the international conference “Armenian Genocide – 100: From recognition to compensation” initiated by the National Academy of Sciences and Yerevan State University.

1915 is the most tragic page of millennia of our history, which left bitter memories of deprivation of homeland, human and material great losses and pain. At the beginning of the 20th century one and a half million innocent Armenians were killed as a result of the inhuman slaughter implemented by the Ottoman Empire. Our buildings and dwellings were destroyed, our churches were robbed and demolished and the Armenians’ heritage of culture was also destroyed.

It is a fact that unconvicted crime gives birth to a new, bigger crime. How many casualties caused Fascism during the Second World War, which leaders were encouraged by the universal oblivion of the Armenian Genocide. How many innocent people suffer from terrorism in present days, which organizers are convinced of their impunity?”
