Gagik Harutyunyan: Azerbaijan has no resource to wage large-scale operations

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 28, ARMENPRESS. Azerbaijan has no human, military and political resources to wage large-scale military operations. Executive Director of “Noravank” Scientific and Educational Foundation, Gagik Harutyunyan expressed such an opinion during an interview with journalists on September 28.

“So I hope that the border tension will not turn into a war. I also expect that the “thaw in relations” between Russia and the West can lead Armenia and Azerbaijan to finding common grounds in relation of peaceful settlement of the conflict and not to wage a war”, “Armenpress” reports, Harutyunyan emphasized.

He also stressed that at this point war is not within the interest of Azerbaijan as forces of extremist ideologies start to strengthen in Azerbaijan which threaten to topple Aliyev’s regime, and significant resources are necessary to combat them.

According to Harutyunyan, the Azerbaijani authorities cannot wage a war against Armenia, and simultaneously struggle against the extremists. “I am also of the opinion that Aliyev incites border tension prior to the elections to demonstrate the extremist forces that he is not less extremist”, the political scientist concluded.
