YEREVAN, AUGUST 7, ARMENPRESS. Doctor Shavarsh Krissian, who lives in the United States of America, is the nephew of Shavarsh Krissian – famous athlete and editor of the first sports magazine of the Ottoman Empire “Marmnamarz”.
Shavarsh Krissian Sr. was one of the intellectuals exiled and then ruthlessly killed during the Armenian Genocide. Being a descendant of a family which fell victim to the Armenian Genocide, Shavarsh Krissian Jr. thinks that sooner or later Turkey will recognize the Armenian Genocide. “It is undeniable that we have a great cause, a huge crime was committed against us, which must be retributed both morally and materially. Why morally? As long as Turkey does not recognize the Genocide, Armenia is under danger.” said Shavarsh Krissian.
He considers that the first priority is for Turkey to acknowledge the crime which is not so hard for them. “Probably they are afraid of retribution. They could say “our ancestors made a mistake, not we, thousands of apologies, it won’t happen again.” This is our greatest demand and human expectation. To sleep calmly at night knowing there’s no threatening enemy in the Western Armenia side,” added Krissian in his talk with Armenpress.
“One thing is certain, the Armenians from around the world – English speaking, French speaking, catholic and apostolic, all of them, rose to their feet. They became a single claimant. We walked 8-10 km with 130 thousand people in Los Angeles. The young, the middle-aged, the old, all were there. It was undoubtedly a resurgence,” Shavarsh Krissian shared his impressions with Armenpress.
He also attached importance to the words voiced in the Holy Mass by Pope of Rome. “There are 2 important things: first of all the one who has 1 million adherents pronounced the word “genocide” and secondly, as you know, the Catholic Church has always contended that it’s number one church of the world. For the first time, the Pope said that the first Christian Church was Armenian. It’s a great victory and benefit for us. ” said Krissian. In reference to the future of Armenia, Krissian thinks that Armenia and the Armenians must be introduced to the world as bearers of rich culture and civilization. And to realize the latter we must be more available to general public.
