Turkey reacts to Belgian Chamber of Representatives’ recognition of resolution on Armenian Genocide.

YEREVAN, JULY 24, ARMENPRESS.Turkey reacted to the the Belgian Chamber of Representatives’ recognition of the resolution on the Armenian Genocide. Armenpress informs that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkey spread an announcement with traditional expressions condemning Belgium for “historical inconsistency” and “groundless accusations”.
124 members of the Chamber of Representatives voted for the resolution of the Armenian Genocide and 8 of them remained neutral on July 23.
The Department of Press, Information and Public Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia informed Armenpress that the Minister said in the announcement:
“Seventeen years ago the Belgian Senate recognized the Armenian Genocide by a special resolution. On June 18 this year the Prime Minister of Belgium reaffirmed the position of the Government on the unconditional recognition of the Armenian Genocide.
The resolution recognizing the Armenian Genocide adopted today by the Chamber of Representatives completes the process of recognition of the Armenian Genocide by Belgium.
The unconditional recognition of the Armenian Genocide by legislative and executive authorities of the Kingdom of Belgium is commendable.”
