YEREVAN, JULY 21, ARMENPRESS. The Azerbaijani mass media are fully dependent upon government funding and as a result have become a means of propaganda and do not carry out the function established by Journalism ethics and standards.
Armenpress informs the abovementioned, based on “Turan” analyses about the activities of Azerbaijani mass media.
“The correlation between the Azerbaijani GDP and media advertising is 0,034 percent. This indicator was equal to 0,14 in 2005. This proves that print news and online media cannot survive through self-financing and are fully dependent on external financing. The media financed by the Azerbaijani government does not exceed 30. The latter are granted 3 million dollars yearly. However, naturally financing of this amount is not enough to give salaries to the journalists and take care of other expenses. The creation of media advertising market in accordance with international standards in Azerbaijan is possible only in case of economic freedom of small and medium-sized enterprises, fair competition. This is the driving force for the economies of developed countries.”
