Armenian journalist filed criminal complaint against Ankara Mayor

YEREVAN, JULY 15, ARMENPRESS. Popular Armenian journalist Hayko Bağdat has filed a criminal complaint against the Ankara Mayor Melih Gökçek on the charges that the latter has made improper statements about Armenians on social websites. As reports “Armenpress”, the Turkish Demokrathaber.net informs this.

In the claim submitted to the court Bağdat demanded the Mayor of Ankara to pay 10 thousand Turkish liras as compensation.

Ankara Mayor Melih Gökçek is famous for his hate speeches against Armenians. For example, when the Co-chair of the German Green Party, Turk by descent, called to open the border between Armenia and Turkey, recognize the Genocide and establish relations with Armenia, Gökçek wrote a racist statement in his Twitter blog. In his statement he asked the Green Party member to clarify if he had Armenian roots. The racist statement by the Mayor of Ankara proved that the word “Armenian” continues to be abusive and insulting.
