Prime Minister of Belgium recognizes Armenian Genocide on behalf of government

YEREVAN, JUNE 18, ARMENPRESS.Prime Minister of Belgium Charles Michel recognized the Armenian Genocide on behalf of his government on June 18. As Armenpress reports citing “De Morgen”, Charles Michel said that the tragic events, which took place in the period between 1915-1917 in the Ottoman Empire, should be considered genocide. The Prime Minister particularly stated inthe government, “The relationship between history and the future is occasionally complicated. My position is well known, I think that the tragic events should be labeled as genocide, and that is also theposition of the Belgian government.”

American politician and civil rights lawyer PatrickDeval said, “It was a genocide and it is vital that we firmly mention this fact as a state.” As MP Peter De Roover informed Armenpress, the Parliament of Belgium will discuss the draft resolution on the recognition of the Armenian Genocide at the plenary session of the parliament on June 18.
