YEREVAN, MARCH 10, ARMENPRESS: The Primate of the Diocese of the Armenian Church of Iraq, the Archbishop Avak Asadourian sent a letter to the Princes of the Great Britain Charles and Harry on their decision to participate in the Gallipoli events on April 24, taking place in Turkey, Armenpress reports, citing Agos.
The Archbishop states in the letter that the event is not about commemorating the battle of Gallipoli, saying that it is about exterminating the memory of a race and showing how rewarding and gratifying this ultimate crime can be. Considering the commemoration of the battle of Gallipoli to be “a triumph of the oppressor over the oppressed, a triumph of denialism, savagery and murder over recognition, remorse and civilization”, Asadourian reminded that the allies, including the Great Britain, called the events of 1915 to be “crimes against the humanity”.
Drawing attention to the fact that even Winston Churchill called the year of 1915 a Genocide, the Primate of the Diocese of the Armenian Church of Iraq wrote:“Britain promised to punish the perpetrators of the Genocide, though now the murder of a nation is being rewarded in the twenty first century”. Reminding Hitler’s words “after all, who now remembers the annihilation of the Armenians?”, Asadourian concluded his letter as follows:“I want the Prince of Wales to remember the history and these words.”
