YEREVAN, 18 NOVEMBER, ARMENPRESS: During the third quarter of this year, Armenia’s embassies in Syria and Lebanon have provided 388 valid passports to foreign countries, but no state fees have been levied. Moreover, Syria has provided 269 passports, and Lebanon has provided 119 passports to Syrian citizens of Armenian descent who have acquired citizenship of the Republic of Armenia and have applied to receive a passport.
To reimburse the state fees that weren’t levied, the Government of the Republic of Armenia will allocate over AMD 22 million to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia. According to “ArmenPress”, the draft of the corresponding decision has been included in the government’s November 19 session.
“The Government of the Republic of Armenia is doing everything possible to try to support the foreign nationals of Armenian descent and citizens of the Republic of Armenia whose country of permanent residence is in an extreme situation that causes a threat to the life or health of citizens. The situation has been such in the Syrian Arab Republic since March 2011 and in Iraq since September 2014,” stated in the justification for the draft.
