President of Iran to visit Armenia in near future

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 22, ARMENPRESS: In near future President of Iran Hassan Rouhaniwill pay an official visit to Armenia, Iranian Ambassador to Armenia Mohammad Reisi told journalists during his visit to Yerevan Brusov State University of Languages and Social Sciences. “The exact date has not been specified yet. Anyway, the visits of presidents need special programs. Similar visits are usually bilateral,” Mohammad Reisi noted, Armenpress reports.

President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan and President of Iran Hassan Rouhani met in 5 August 2013 in Tehran. The invitation to visit Armenia was conveyed to Hassan Rouhani by Foreign Minister of Armenia Edward Nalbandyan during his visit to Iran this May.

The Islamic Republic of Iran officially recognised the independance of Armenia on the 25th of December, 1991. A declaration on establishing diplomatic relations between Armenia and Iran was signed in Tehran on the 9th of February, 1992. On the same day ''The Declaration on Principles and Aims of Relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Islamic Republic of Iran '' was signed to assure the Parties' intention to establish friendly relations. The solemn opening ceremony of the Embassy of the Islamic Repulic of Iran took place in Yerevan, in April 1992. Bahram Ghasemi was appointed as IRI charge d’affaires in Armenia. In December, 1992, the embassy of the Republic of Armenia was opened in Tehran.
