Council of Europe's program to strengthen professionalism and independence of Armenia's judicial system launched

YEREVAN, JUNE 26, ARMENPRESS. The Chairman of the CourtofCassation of the Republic of Armenia Arman Mkrtumian received the expert group of theCouncilofEurope Programentitled “Strengtheningthe Independence,Professionalismand Accountability of theJustice Systemin Armenia”. The group was comprised of the Project Coordinator Lilith Daneghyan (Strasbourg), international expert Lorena Bachmaier and Project Manager Narine Gasparyan (Armenia). As “Armenpress” was informed from the Judicial Department, during the presentation of the program Narine Gasparyan noted that the aim is to strengthen the independence and to enhance the professionalism of the justice system in Armenia, as well as to support to implement institutional and legislative reforms aimed at raising the justice system of the Republic of Armenia to the European standards.

The program has three main components: legislation prescribing amended material and procedural norms, improved accountability and public confidence in the justice system, strengthening of the professionalism in the judiciary through improving the School of Advocates and the Academy of Justice.
