NEW YORK, JANUARY 20, ARMENPRESS. The jazz concert by prominent Armenian singer Datevik Hovanesian held at New York’s St. Vartan Cathedral on January 17 charmed the audience.
The audience admired the exceptional concert organized upon the initiative ofSt. Vartan Cathedral of the Diocese of the Armenian Church of America (Eastern) at Haik and Alice Kavookjian Auditorium despite the age and nationality.
In a conversation with “Armenpress” the singer’s husband Vahram stated: “It really was a fabulous concert in every way, the audience was wonderful, the turnout was really great, a lot of people attended, there were many nationalities, age group from 5 to 85.”
This was the first time the Diocese of the Armenian Church of America (Eastern) organized a concert with Datevik Hovanesian’s participation.
As to the audience, Hovanesian’s husband stated that they were really warm, energetic and attentive at the same time, all of which meant Datevik felt great, full of energy and it showed in her performance. In the beginning of the program Datevik promised that she will share her heart with the audience and she certainly did. The audience always plays a huge role in every performance, it is a collaboration since the artist feeds off the energy of the people, last night they also shared their heart with Datevik.
She spent almost as much time as the duration of the concert signing CDs, taking pictures with the audience, talking with each one after the concert was over, receiving all that warmth and love will make any artist feel wonderful, and Datevik was grateful for that.
Following the concert the renowned jazz singer received a number of letters from the fans. One of them was by an American couple, which in particular runs as follows: “Debora and I were blown away by Datevik's performance last night - we both had tears in our eyes on several songs - the "You must believe in Spring" ballad was one of the most moving performances I've ever experienced. Datevik and the piano player were both channeling inspiration from the musical gods! If you recorded the show, it would be something truly worth having for the ages.”
