Sargsyan-Aliyev meeting is a positive step towards restarting regular discussions: David Lidington

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 26, ARMENPRESS: The European Minister David Lidington welcomed the meeting of the Presidents of the Republic of Armenia and Azerbaijan on the Nagorno Karabakh conflict issue in Vienna on November 19. The British Embassy to Armenia informed Armenpress that David Lidington said in particular:

"I welcome the meeting held in Viennaon 19 November between President Aliyev ofAzerbaijanand President Sargsyan ofArmenia. This meeting, facilitated by the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs and the first since January 2012, marks a positive step towards restarting regular and substantive discussions between leaders. We encourage both Presidents to build on theViennameeting and work actively towards a peaceful and long lasting solution of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict," Minister Lidington said in his statement.

The meeting between the President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan and President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev was held in Vienna on November 19. The Armenian President evaluated it to be normal. The meeting was conducted with the participation of the Co-Chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group Igor Popov (Russia), James Warlick (US), Jacques Fore (France) and Personal Representative of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office Andrzej Kasprzyk, as well as Edward Nalbandyan and Elmar Mamedyarov, the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Armenia and Azerbaijan.The Co-Chairs expressed their readiness to work with the sides and organize the meeting of the heads of the two states on December 4-5 in Kiev.By the end of the year the Co-Chairs will visit the region.
