ECHR President promised to give legal assessment to Ramil Safarov’s case

YEREVAN, JUNE 27, ARMENPRESS: President of European Court of Human Rights Dean Spielmann promised to examine the legal aspect of Ramil Safarov’s case and give corresponding estimation. “Armenpress” reports that the President of European Court of Human Rights mentioned about this during the meeting with the President of Armenian National Assembly Hovik Abrahamyan who is in Strasbourg on a working visit. Speaking about Safarov’s case Hovik Abrahamyan mentioned that it is the problem not only of Armenia but of the whole international society. “Armenia expects that European Court of Human Rights will reverberate to mentioned issue from legal aspect and will give adequate legal assessment which will have important meaning in prevention of such unacceptable steps,” mentioned President of National Assembly.

The President of European Court of Human Rights stressed the importance of the visit of National Assembly President and mentioned that he will visit Armenia for the first time in future to take part in international conference, Dean Spielmann highly estimated the work of 4 Armenian lawyers in European Court and expressed hope that new young lawyers from Armenia will work in ECHR as the Court needs new lawyers. According to him it is important also in sense of experience exchange. Reverberating to Ramil Safarov’s case Dean Spielmann mentioned that European Court has experience of such sensitive cases and the ECHR assessment will be legal.

National Assembly President mentioned that Armenia highly estimates the role of the Court in defending Human rights of Europeans living in 47 countries of Council of Europe. He stated that the meeting takes place in framework of Armenian presidency in minister’s committee of CoE. In Hovik Abrahamyan’s words Armenian presidency will continue the efforts of previous presidencies directed to strengthening the using of European Convention on Human Rights.

The delegation headed by the President of National Assembly Hovik Abrahamyan was in Strasbourg on June 26-27 on occasion of assuming the presidency of Armenia in Minister’s committee of Council of Europe.
