Funds raised from The Beautified Project's concert to be directed to solution of heating problems in Byron School in Gyumri

YEREVAN, JUNE 24, ARMENPRESS. The Beautified Project Armenian rock band will perform a charity concert in Yerevan's Puppet Theatre after Hovhannes Toumanyan. Funds raised from the concert will be directed to the investment of heating system in the Lord Byron School in Gyumri. As reports "Armenpress" at the press conference held on June 24 the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the UK to the Republic of Armenia Katherine Leach stated that the Embassy and she personally are concerned about the destiny of the Lord Byron School in Gyumri.

Among other things the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the UK to the Republic of Armenia Katherine Leach underlined: "The school in Gyumri was a gift from the Great Britain to Armenia after the earthquake. We are very concerned about the destiny of this building, which in fact is the sole British building in Armenia." In addition the Ambassador noted that the funds raised from the upcoming concert of The Beautified Project Armenian rock band and a row of other events as well will be directed to the improvement of conditions in the Lord Byron School in Gyumri.

Lord Byron School was founded in 1988 in Gyumri (formerly Leninakan) following the Spitak earthquake that devastated the city, by funds provided by the British Government as well as donations raised by the British people. A carved stone cross called a Khatchkar was placed in a British school by the Armenian government in thanks for the rebuilding of this school following the 1988 earthquake. The rebuilt school was opened by "Iron Lady", former United Kingdom Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher on 10 June 1990 on her first trip to the Soviet Union. Since then the school has always been in the centre of the British Embassy's attention.
