Armenia's "Eurovision" song in the centre of attention of British media

YEREVAN, MARCH 7, ARMENPRESS. "Dorians" rock band's Lonely Planet song for "Eurovision 2013" song contest appeared in the centre of attention of the British media. As reports "Armenpress" almost each day a British daily, newspaper or magazine touches upon "Lonely Planet", which Dorians rock band will introduce in "Eurovision 2013" song contest. Tony Iommi is the co-author of the song.

In this respect The Guardian states the following: "Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi has written the music for Armenia's entry to the annual Eurovision Song Contest, bringing a heavy metal pioneer to an event described by the media as a "kitschfest" and "bad taste party". The musician, a founding member of the influential British band, said the song called "Lonely Planet" was a "demo idea" which was eventually voted Armenia's Eurovision contender. It is due to be performed by the Dorians in the semi-finals on 16 May in Malmo, Sweden, Iommi said. Iommi has connections in Armenia as he was one of several rock stars who helped raise funds after a huge earthquake in 1988 killed 25,000 people and let tens of thousands homeless in the then Soviet Armenia. He was given an order of honour by Armenia during a visit in 2009 and became involved in another project, to re-build a music school there. Despite critical derision, Eurovision is watched by a television audience of tens of millions each year, and has helped launch the career of one of the biggest acts of all time, Abba, which won in 1974 with 'Waterloo'."

Birmingham mail newspaper said that the Black Sabbath star is happy to be working in Armenia once more after developing bond with country. Among other things it was noted: "Handsworth-born Iommi, 65, has penned the music for the number Lonely Planet, which will be sung by the group, Dorians. The Armenian outfit has come up with its own English-language lyrics for the entry, which was selected by the nation at the weekend to compete in the semi-finals in May. For Iommi, who is in the midst of recording a new Sabbath album, the project allows him to continue his love affair with Armenia."

In turn, Contactmusic.com modern magazine has also touched upon this issue. "All eyes will be on Armenia at the Eurovision Song Contest in May after the nation's leaders withdrew from the competition last year in protest against host country Azerbaijan."
