Construction of 1 km of Yerevan Metro costs USD 100 million

YEREVAN, DECERMBER 17, ARMENPRESS. 2012-2015 Medium-Term Expenditure Framework of the Government of the Republic of Armenia does not consider financing of the construction of new metro stations. There are no other finances for the capital construction from other organizations as well. The Press Service of the Yerevan Metro informed "Armenpress" that the construction of 100 km of Yerevan Metro after Karen Demirchyan will cost USD 100 million. The Municipality stated: "Presently there no finances and it's a little bit soon to speak about the construction of new stations."

In frames of the modernization of the underground system the security and energetic efficiency has already been largely improved. As well as 10 wagons underwent entire modernization and restoration due to a number of savings. Total costs equaled to EURO 15 million. The second part of the program will launch from January, 2013.

The construction of the Yerevan Metro kicked off in 1972. It was the eighth in the Soviet space. Presently 10 stations are active. Among them are Barekamutyun, Marshal Baghramyan, Yeritasardakan, Republic Square, General Andranik, David of Sasun, Gortsaranain, Shengavit, Charbakh, and Garegin Nzhdeh Square.
