Hungarian Consul in Madrid regrets about Safarov’s release

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 7, ARMENPRESS: On September 6 a protest action on the Azerbaijani assassin Ramil Safarov’s extradition to Azerbaijan by the Hungarian authorities and his release, took place in front of the Hungarian Embassy in the capital of Spain, Madrid. The Spanish Armenians headed by the Armenian Young Union of Madrid, the Parishioners’ Council of the Armenian Apostolic Church and the Armenian National Council of Spain, making a circle in front of the Hungarian Embassy, expressed their indignation and protest with posters and microphones concerning the Hungarian-Azerbaijani shameful deal. Informational flyers were distributed among the Spaniards and people of other nationalities, gathered at the Embassy.

As reported by Armenpress, at the end of the action the community representatives were accepted by the Hungarian Embassy Consul to Madrid, who was handed a protest letter, written by the community organizations, demanding in particular from the Hungarian authorities to admit their mistake and make corresponding steps to restore the good reputation of democratic and civilized country. The Hungarian diplomat expressed regret on behalf of his country's Government concerning Azerbaijan's failure to keep the promise to resume the assassin’s punishment.

Azerbaijani assassin Ramil Safarov, who axe-murdered Armenian officer Gurgen Margaryan while sleeping, when they were participating in NATO English Language Courses in Budapest, was sentenced to life imprisonment without right to be pardoned for 30 years. Armenia held up the diplomatic relations with Hungary, after Safarov was extradited to Azerbaijan on August 31 2012 and was pardoned by the President Aliyev notwithstanding the fact that Azerbaijan promised to continue the punishment.
