YEREVAN, JANUARY 25, ARMENPRESS: The United States of America wishes to increase the volume of export from Armenia through the restoration of Generalized System of Privileges (GSP+). Specialist from the department of economy of the US embassy Natalia Kessler said at a workshop January 25 that Armenia is included in the list of countries having opportunity to get use of the GSP+. Countries making use of it have an opportunity to export over 6,400 local products to the foreign market with zero or reduced customs fees. "Armenia has the highest percent of application of the GSP among the 129 beneficiary countries – 99.8%. The import from Armenia to the USA through this system makes 91%," she said.
Kessler said the important condition of the system is the direct export of the product from Armenia to the United States.
GSP allows export of reprocessed products, jewellery, electronics, certain agricultural products, carpets. Textile and clothes, clocks, shoes, bags, leather things are not allowed any more.
In 2010 the U.S government suspended the provision of privileges through this system, but resumed in 2011.
