Georgian Interior Ministry will demand extradition of the Georgian mafia boss Lasha Shushanashvili, who was detained by Greek police during a special anti-crime operation conducted near Athens on Sunday. Shushanashvili was wanted by Georgian and Spanish police for leading mafia network, Rustavi 2 reports.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Nino Kalandadze explained at the briefing today that Spain will be granted priority to demand extradition as the member state of the European Union.
'Georgia will demand extradition of Shushanashvili, because he was wanted by Georgian police; he was also wanted by Spain's police and as the member of the European Union, Spain will be granted priority to demand extradition, though, this factor will not obstruct Georgia to demand extradition. Our diplomatic missions are involved in the negotiations and we hope that our demand will be satisfied; Kalandadze said and hailed cooperation of Georgian law enforcers with European colleagues.
