The daily Hayots Ashkhar writes that the spokesman for the Republican Party of Armenia Eduard Sharmazanov described the joint statement of the defense ministers of Turkey and Azerbaijan as at least strange: “two aggressor countries are making statements about occupation accusing another country in being an occupant”. The paper says APA news agency reported that at the extended meeting of the defense ministers of Turkey and Azerbaijan a joint statement was disseminated which says “the time has come for the occupant Armenia to leave Azerbaijani lands”. Edward Sharmazanov in response stated: “It is Azerbaijan that must leave the territories of Artsakh it has occupied – Getashen, Shahumyan, Martunashen and it is Turkey that has occupied the territories of the EU member-state Cyprus”, the paper quoted him as saying.

The daily Haykakan Zhamanak writes that President of France Nicolas Sarkozy may broker the next meeting of the presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan. The paper says the issue was discussed during the regional visit of Sarkozy to the South Caucasus. The paper says Russian Nezavisimaya Gazetta writes that the presidents of Russia and the USA already discussed the issue and gave their consent. The paper says still in June 24 in Kazan when the presidents failed to agree over the basic principles the Russian press wrote that Dmitri Medvedev was so much disappointed that he might reject the brokering mission and “give place” to France.
