100 000 Turkish Liras to be given as Compensation for Dink Family

YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 21, ARMENPRESS: Istanbul court has sentenced Turkey’s Interior Ministry to pay compensation for failing to prevent Armenian journalist Hrant Dink’s assassination 2007.

According to Turkish mass media, the 10th Administrative Court of Istanbul ruled that the ministry had the means to prevent the assassination of the editor-in-chief of “Akos” daily and ruled for 100,000 Turkish liras to be given as compensation for the Dink Family. The Dink family will also receive 9,700 liras for court costs. The decision was given on the grounds that the European Court of Human Rights had sentenced Turkey for that case, among others.

Dink was a Turkish citizen of Armenian origin and endeavored to re-establish ties between the Turks and Armenians.
