There is still no expert or authoritative body dealing with ideology of despair and death

YEREVAN, DECEMBER 9, ARMENPRESS: Both psychologists and state bodies have started speaking of “emo” subculture, which has struck roots into Armenian reality quite lately. The followers of this “emo-tional” ideology are divided into two groups – true and false. In the first group are involved those who have made an attempt of suicide at least once, and in the second group – those who strive to reach suchlike victory over the idea of death. According to analysts the second group of emos is larger and more dangerous, as the latter have an issue of self-realization.

Clergyman Shmavon Ghevondyan referred to the issue in an interview with Armenpress, noting that the largest problem is that this subculture keeps juniors and young people in passive, weak-willed psychological state. According to him, people appeared in this state go to suicide more easily, and this is laid in the basis of the ideology of the subculture.

Head of Government-affiliated Department on Religious and National Minorities Vardan Astsatryan noted that their department is not engaged in the activity of this movement as it is defined as a subculture and not a sect.

Head of the Information and Public Relations Department of the National Security Council Artsvin Baghramyan told Armenpress that the National Security Council is not engaged in the issues of “Emo” subculture, has no suchlike expert and cannot make conclusions in regard to danger from the national viewpoint.

The Armenian police also noted that they do not distinguish between emos and ordinary teenagers, and the functions of the police are only prevention and suspension of violation of public order registered by them. So there is still no expert or authoritative body dealing with ideology of despair and death, and it is parents who should take care of their children in this regard.

“If parents notice that their child wishes solitude, bears symbols of death, expresses despair and hot annoyance, they should keep him/ her in the center of their attention. Later it may be late,” clergyman Shmavon Ghevondyan noted.
