Nerses Yeritsyan: Creation of free economic zone will contribute to development of Armenian-Russian commodity turnover level

YEREVAN, DECEMBER 6, ARMENPRESS: The Armenian-Russian business forum started its works today in Yerevan. Over 100 representatives of this sphere from the two countries participate in it. The forum has been organized by the Armenian and Russian Chambers of Commerce and Industry. Chairman of the Armenian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Martin Sargsyan noted that today Russia is considered one of our main partners in the sphere of economy, as a result of which there are more than 1400 enterprises in Armenia working with Russian capital.

“There is still a big potential for development of bilateral economic ties, for realization of which joint efforts are necessary,” Mr. Sargsyan said. According to him, since 2005 the commodity turnover imported from Russia to Armenia has grown four times, and the exports in the opposite direction –twice. Today the Armenian-Russian commodity turnover level has exceeded the threshold of 1 billion USD.

Mr. Sargsyan said that their goal is to create a corresponding environment and opportunities for continuous development of Armenian-Russian commodity turnover level, irrespective of various obstacles. Mainly cognac, mineral water, juices and medicine are imported today from Armenia to Russia. According to Mr. Sargsyan, currently there are numerous commodities in Armenia, about which people are not competent in Russia. “Our goal is to establish new ties between the business circles of the two countries thanks to this forum.

The volume of commodities imported to Armenia from Russia may be expanded as well. There is quite a big potential of bilateral cooperation and especially in IT sphere,” Martin Sargsyan said. Deputy Chairman of Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Georgy Petrov noted that the bilateral commercial and economic ties are strong today especially thanks to the policy assumed by the Armenian and Russian presidents. According to him, the implementation of joint programs in the spheres of agriculture, energy and innovation will contribute to increase of commodity turnover level.

“Russia is ready to do its best to bring to life the programs intended with Armenia. Your country is considered one of the most important ingredients of our economy,” Mr. Petrov said. Armenian Economy Minister Nerses Yeritsyan welcomed the conduction of the bilateral business forum on behalf of our government. According to him, the creation of free economic zone is one of the best means of development of commodity turnover level, which will become impetus for additional investments, and development of business ties.

“There are high level ties in the sphere of economy between the two countries, for strengthening and expansion of which we must work jointly. Russia continues to remain leader in Armenian economy by the volume of investments, and we are glad for it,” the Armenian Economy Minister pointed out.
