Armenian national qualifying round of “New Wave 2011” kicked off

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 22, ARMENPRESS: The national qualifying round of the contests of young pop performers of “New Wave-2011” and “Children’s New Wave 2011” kicked off today. Director General of the festivals Alexander Rumyantsev said today at a meeting with journalists that “New Wave” contests conducted in Jurmala and Artek have been and remain bright cultural events which are widely covered by the Russian and foreign press. According to him, the idea of the contest belongs to composers Igor Krutoy and Raymond Pauls, and since 2002 “ARS” company is engaged in preliminary and organizational issues of the contest, chaired by Russian people’s artist, composer Igor Krutoy.

“New Wave” annual contest enables thousands of listeners and televiewers to witness staging of talented people, many of who become true stars in future,” Mr. Rumyantsev said. According to him, the circumstance that Armenian performer Sona Shahgeldyan has been recognized winner of “New Wave 2010” and “Razmik and Friends” – of “Children’s New Wave 2010” prove that Armenian people are really talented. Executive Director of the festivals Stella Khachanyants noted that the national qualifying round of Armenia will be conducted in March 2011. The jury will be comprised of members of the board of “ARS” company, and art and cultural figures of Armenia and Russia.

Beginning from Monday the participants will have an opportunity to present their participation applications. It will be clear as a result of two qualifying rounds who will present Armenia at the festivals. Mr. Rumyantsev is very glad that he is in Armenia; he has an impression as if he is on a sacred land. The Armenians can be proud of their country’s weather conditions, which have been conveyed to Armenian people. Armenians are very warm and bright people,” Mr. Rumyantsev said.
