YEREVAN, JULY 17, ARMENPRESS: Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan at the meeting with the Russian vice prime minister Alexander Zhukov discussed a wide-range of issues in different directions. Cooperation agreement has been signed between the Olympic committees of the two countries. At a press conference followed after the meeting Tigran Sargsyan said that they discussed a number of issues on cooperation in the sport sphere.
“Our sports bases may be of interest for Russian athletes. I hope the exchange of opinions and the launched cooperation will be a success as the Russian side is interested in it. The achievements in sports during the soviet years were also the result of making use of the sports bases in the territory of Armenia. It shows that Armenia has potential for the development of professional sports,” the prime minister said.
A. Zhukov noted that the goal of his visit is the establishment of firm ties between the two countries for cooperation in the sphere of sports and particularly between the Olympic committees.
“During the soviet years Armenia was well-known with its sport traditions. During those years important sport bases were operating in Armenia. The athletes getting prepared in the good conditions ensured by the bases showed best results. Today as well Armenia is participating in international competitions,” Zhukov said. The sport base in Tsakhkadzor today too is of great demand.
“We must develop our cooperation in that direction and use all the opportunities. Russian athletes may also train in Armenia and we in our turn may provide the experience of our coaches. We may create opportunity for joint preparation of the teams of the two countries. I think there is a serious potential to develop cooperation in this direction,” Russian vice prime minister said.
A. Zhukov also said that at the meeting an investment program in Sevan has been presented which intends creation of a sport base. The Russian vice premier said it may be a good fill to the Tsakhkadzor base.
Tigran Sargsyan noted that they also exchanged opinions over the reforms carried out in different spheres in Armenia and Russia. They particularly refer to social, educational, healthcare spheres.
Tigran Sargsyan said issues on preparatory works for the Olympic games in Sochi have also been discussed.
