YEREVAN, MAY 10, ARMENPRESS: From April 22 to May 8, at the invitation of “Country Nairi” organization “Narekatsi” ensemble of folk music instruments gave concerts in 10 Swiss and French cities presenting the Armenian folk and religious music.
Narek Harutyunyan, president of “Narekatsi” art union, said at a meeting with journalists that during the tour first of all three events were in the core of their attention – concerts in Switzerland dedicated to the 95th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, a charitable concert aimed at supporting ten-year old Alex Chuflakyan who is in a paralyzed state because of a car crash, and a concert dedicated to Lui Darjit de Furne, savior of thousands of Armenians in 1915, a vice-admiral of the French navy.
“In the ensemble 6-22 year old musicians are involved who perform religious and folk songs as well as works by Komitas, Sayat-Nova, Sheram and other well known composers and ashughs,” Narek Harutyunyan said, adding that the concerts have raised a great interest abroad, they have been actively covered by the French, Swiss and Italian mass media.
The art director of “Narekatsi” ensemble is Hovik Sahakyan, distinguished tar (oriental as well as Armenian musical instrument) player. According to him, the alumni of the ensemble also participate in classes on preparing instruments of folk music. “The main goal of the ensemble is to disseminate love and raise interest in Armenian musical instruments among young musicians, who inheriting the experience and knowledge of the elder generation will give them a new breath,” H. Sahakyan said.
H. Sahakyan said the group is committed to its goal – to present the Armenian traditional music and to have a duologue with all the peoples of the world with the tongue of music.
“Narekatsi” folk ensemble has been created August 27, 2008.
