Armenian great prose-writer Hrant Matevosyan’s 75th anniversary marked

YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 12, ARMENPRESS: Traditional memorial ceremony, dedicated to 75th anniversary of Armenian great prose-writer Hrant Matevosyan, was held in Komitas park-pantheon today. RA Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan, Yerevan mayor Gagik Beglaryan, Chairman of Armenian Writers Union Levon Ananyan, other high officials and people fond of Matevosyan’s prose were present at the ceremony.

Levon Ananyan said Matevosyan created unique literature, a “new universe inhabited with ordinary people whom he considers noblemen. Ananyan said that the writer “spread” the image of an Armenian and his words in all over the world. A writer, publicist Zori Balayan said everybody comes to the pantheon knowing Matevosyan’s spirit is over there. “His life is a philosophy and his thoughts are aimed to the future. His works are precepts and lessons of how a farmer can become a hero,” Zori Balayan said.

Hrant Matevosyan was born in Ahnidzor village, Tumanyan region. He left his home village for Yerevan in 1952. He chaired RA Writers Union from 1995 to 2000. His prose was translated into Russian, English, French, German, Norwegian, Ukrainian, Lithuanian, Hungarian, Georgian, Bulgarian and other languages. The reading public is familiar with 'We and our highlands', 'August', 'Trees', 'Green field”, “Autumn sun” and other novels.
