Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar described the first joint meeting of the Czech and Hungarian governments as historic, praising cooperation within the Visegrád Group, Euronews reported.

The two leaders confirmed that a second round of intergovernmental consultations would take place in Budapest in the spring.

At a press conference following the consultations, Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš said the two sides had agreed to hold joint meetings regularly, enabling them to address specific issues important to the people of both countries.

Babiš added that Hungary and Czechia should work together to secure substantial support under the EU’s next seven-year budget for a high-speed railway project costing more than €10 billion.

The Baltic states have already received EU funding for a similar project. Moving from the planning stage to implementation of the investment project could take 10–12 years.
