IDBank press release
The official groundbreaking ceremony for a new 1.2-hectare Biodiversity Park took place near the Matenadaran, marking the start of the implementation of the joint initiative by IDBank, the Matenadaran, and the "Armenia Tree Project" charitable foundation. The event was marked by the planting of the future park's first plane tree near the statue of Mesrop Mashtots, uniting the preservation of cultural and natural heritage.
According to Mher Abrahamyan, Chairman of the Management Board of IDBank, environmental protection is one of the Bank’s key priorities as a responsible business.
“A few days ago, we signed the memorandum of cooperation to establish a biodiversity park adjacent to the Matenadaran, and today we are planting the first plane tree, bringing that vision to life. Set in the heart of the city, the park will have environmental, educational, and public significance, contributing to the preservation and appreciation of nature. May the plane tree, planted today, serve as a symbol of our shared responsibility and remind us that the future is built through the decisions and actions we take today,” said Mher Abrahamyan.
According to Ara Khzmalyan, Director of the “Matenadaran” Research Institute of Ancient Manuscripts Named after M. Mashtots, partnering with the Matenadaran means, above all, sharing responsibility.
“The first plane tree is not only the beginning of the future park, but also a symbol of the responsibility with which we preserve the world we inherited and pass it on to coming generations. We will have a dedicated zone in the park featuring plant species mentioned in our ancient manuscripts․ This will give us an opportunity to teach students about our manuscripts and medicine,” noted Ara Khzmalyan.
Anthony Barsamian, Member of the Board of Trustees of the Armenia Tree Project charitable foundation, emphasized the importance of the foundation's many years of work in his remarks.
“We began our mission thirty-two years ago, and today we planted our 10-millionth tree here at the Matenadaran. On the path to a greener and cleaner homeland, this is a wonderful step toward making our capital city, Yerevan, even more beautiful and healthy,” said Anthony Barsamian.
The ceremonial part of the event continued with the opening of the exhibition “MEA CULPA. Inherited and Inherited Worlds,” organized within the framework of COP17.
