Pashinyan: Armenia should focus on signing, ratifying peace agreement with Azerbaijan

Armenia should focus in the coming period on signing and ratifying the initialed peace agreement with Azerbaijan, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said, emphasizing that once the agreement is signed and ratified, it will have laid the cornerstone for the perpetuity of Armenian statehood.

“Yesterday, I spoke about the history that we must create together, and it is very important to state how this should happen. My vision is as follows: in the coming period, we should focus on signing and ratifying the initialed peace agreement with Azerbaijan. And when that happens, we can state that we have laid the cornerstone for the perpetuity of Armenian statehood,” Pashinyan said on October 13.

Earlier on October 12, Pashinyan made the following post on his Facebook page:

“When we speak of history, we generally mean what happened in the past. Isn’t this a fundamental problem? If history has already happened, what more can we do? Or, even if we can do something, it would be an attempt to reproduce the past today and thereby change it, but in practice, it is impossible to change what has already happened. What, then, should we do? There is only one solution: by history, we should mean not what has already happened, but what is yet to happen. This understanding makes us full-fledged authors of history, because it is being created now and must be created tomorrow. And what is it that happened in the past? It is historical experience, the lessons of history, which serve as a practical guide on what to do and what not to do to avoid repeating history. The history that the citizens of the Republic of Armenia are creating today is unique in this respect. It has never happened before, and perhaps this is the first time that we are making history rather than reproducing it. History is no longer what has happened; history is what is yet to happen. And what must happen is the implementation of the strategy for a lasting state, guided by the vision of a Free and Happy Armenia. Those who share the ideology of Real Armenia, regardless of where they work or what they do, go to work with this vision in mind. Have a good day, everyone.”
