Armenian students return from International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics with one silver and three bronze medals

The 19th International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics was held in Vietnam’s capital, Hanoi, from 25 September to 5 October, bringing together 320 students from 64 countries. Each country could enter a maximum of five students.
Armenia’s team comprised Ruzanna Shiroyan, Natali Margaryan and Bagrat Bagratyan from the A. Shahinyan Specialised Physics and Mathematics School, Emil Harutyunyan from the National Polytechnic University of Armenia’s High School, and Davit Badalyan from the Shirakatsy Lyceum Scientific and Educational Complex.
Ruzanna Shiroyan won a silver medal, while Natali Margaryan, Bagrat Bagratyan and Emil Harutyunyan won bronze medals.
The Olympiad consisted of four rounds: theoretical, telescope observation, data analysis and planetarium.
The Armenian team was led by Artashes Mkrtchyan, affiliated with Yerevan State University and the Yerevanen Scientific and Educational Foundation, and Artavazd Harutyunyan, affiliated with Yerevan State University and the A. Shahinyan Specialised Physics and Mathematics School.
At the 18th International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics, held in Mumbai, India, in 2025, Armenia’s team won two silver medals and one bronze medal.
