Azerbaijani serviceman illegally crosses into Armenia, shoots citizen in leg, gets arrested

Azerbaijan’s State Security Service informed Armenia’s National Security Service on September 29 that a serviceman from one of Azerbaijan’s military units had left his place of service under unknown circumstances. It was not ruled out that he may have illegally crossed the border of the Republic of Armenia. Following this, the competent authorities of Armenia and Azerbaijan carried out relevant search operations.
The National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia said in a statement that at 14:15 on October 1, the 112 emergency operations center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Armenia received a report that an Armenian citizen had been shot in the leg in the settlement of Shaki in Syunik Province.
Operational groups from various units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Police went to the scene. Urgent measures were taken to clarify all the circumstances of the incident.
It was established that the crime was committed by an Azerbaijani serviceman, who was arrested.
Details of the incident were also presented to the Azerbaijani side.
Criminal proceedings have been initiated in connection with the incident at the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia.
