Deputy Prosecutor General Edgar Arsenyan, as part of the delegation of the Republic of Armenia, is participating in the 15th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice in Abu Dhabi.
According to a press release issued by the Prosecutor-General’s Office, Arsenyan delivered a speech at the congress, presenting the experience and approaches of the Republic of Armenia in the fields of crime prevention and criminal justice, with particular focus on the importance of international cooperation and directions for its further development.
The Deputy Prosecutor General addressed the purpose and specific features of the institution of confiscation of property of illicit origin in Armenia, as well as the importance of mutual legal assistance and international cooperation in the context of identifying assets located in foreign countries and obtaining information concerning them. The practical challenges faced were also presented, along with the experience of exchanging requests between Armenia and foreign partners, as well as the work being carried out to enhance the effectiveness of cooperation.
On the same day, Edgar Arsenyan met with UAE Attorney General Hamad Saif Al Shamsi.
During the meeting, the specific features of the institution of confiscation of property of illicit origin in the Republic of Armenia were presented. The parties also discussed the status of requests submitted by the Republic of Armenia to the competent authorities of the UAE in individual cases within the framework of mutual legal assistance, as well as issues related to obtaining the necessary information concerning them, tracing assets, the timely exchange of information, and enhancing the effectiveness of processing international requests.
As a result of the meeting, an agreement was reached to strengthen practical cooperation and make further cooperation more effective.
As part of the visit, the delegation of the Republic of Armenia also held bilateral meetings with senior representatives in the justice sector of partner states, including delegations headed by the ministers of justice of the UAE and the State of Qatar. Issues of mutual interest and prospects for developing cooperation were discussed.
