Environmental protection inspectors have rescued a rare peregrine falcon found exhausted and helpless in the yard of a house in the settlement of Malishka in Armenia’s Vayots Dzor Province.
The Environmental Protection and Mining Inspection Body said it received a report about the bird at around 11:00 on September 16. Inspectors who arrived at the scene identified it as a peregrine falcon (Falco peregrinus), a bird of prey in the falcon family.
The species is listed in Armenia’s Red Book and the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.
At around 16:15 the same day, the falcon was taken to the rehabilitation center of Yerevan Zoo for necessary care and recovery. The bird was ringed, and the information on the ring will be used to identify it.
The falcon’s health is currently considered satisfactory, and it remains under the care of specialists.
