Generation AI program implemented in over 40 Armenian high schools

Armenia is developing a national model for artificial intelligence (AI) education in high schools through the “Generation AI” program, a strategic initiative of the Foundation for Armenian Science and Technology (FAST).

The three-year program is designed for high-school students interested in mathematics, AI and technology-related fields.

Starting from 10th grade, it allows students to study one of the world’s fastest-developing fields—artificial intelligence—as a free school subject and develop some of the most sought-after skills of the 21st century.

The program is implemented by FAST jointly with Armenia’s Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport. It aims to create a national model for AI education, making Armenia one of the first countries in the world, alongside China and the United States, to introduce AI education at the school level.

Launched in 2023 in 15 high schools, “Generation AI” has become available in 41 high schools across all regions of Armenia. In the 2026–2027 academic year, AI classes have been established in 32 high schools, bringing the number of students to 910.

The program’s content is not a replication of any international program. It has been developed by leading experts from Armenia, the United States, Lebanon and other countries.

At the same time, all materials being developed are compared with the standards of UNESCO and other international organizations and are aligned with Armenia’s new educational standards.

Speaking on an Armenpress podcast, Anush Ayvazyan, General Education Programs Lead at FAST, discussed the distinctive features of the “Generation AI” program and its teaching methodology.
