Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has expressed hope for a peaceful solution with the United States regarding the Arctic region, including Greenland.
Reuters reported this.
She recalled that the United States and Denmark had agreed to establish a high-level working group and that Denmark had said it wanted close cooperation with the United States on security and defence, including in Greenland.
“I’m quite optimistic that we can find a way, and I think we already now see some very clear signs and signals… My hope is that we find a way forward peacefully,” she said at a press conference following a meeting with EU leaders in Finland.
US President Donald Trump has repeatedly said that he wants to take control of Greenland, which is part of Denmark, arguing that Copenhagen is unable to defend it.
