Delimitation logic could deviate due to TRIPP implementation, says senior lawmaker

MP Sargis Khandanyan (Civil Contract), Chairman of the parliamentary Committee on Foreign Relations, on Wednesday did not rule out the possibility of a deviation from the agreement already reached and the general logic regarding the continuation of delimitation between Armenia and Azerbaijan once the TRIPP project begins to be implemented on the ground.

Khandanyan made the remarks during a press briefing when asked to comment on Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov’s statements regarding the delimitation.

Bayramov, during a briefing with Azerbaijani media on September 9, referred to the delimitation process with Armenia, recalling that the sides had agreed to continue delimitation from north to south, starting from the point where the borders of Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia meet. The delimitation commissions of Armenia and Azerbaijan had reached this agreement in January 2025.

Khandanyan emphasized that Armenia and Azerbaijan had long agreed to continue delimitation in the north-to-south direction, starting from the point where the borders of Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia meet.

“When the TRIPP project begins to be implemented on the ground, there is a possibility that partial delimitation work will be carried out in those sections where, for example, the railway is supposed to pass, or in those sections where oil pipelines and gas pipelines are supposed to be laid. There may be a certain deviation from the logic,” he noted.
