US negotiators told the French side in Kyiv that Moscow could show renewed willingness to resume negotiations after Russia’s State Duma elections.
According to Le Monde, a representative of the French president’s office made the remarks during a telephone briefing with journalists.
“The Americans told us in Kyiv that after the State Duma elections, there is renewed willingness on the Russian side to negotiate, and we must prepare for a fresh start to the negotiations,” the representative said.
US President’s Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner held talks in Kyiv with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, as well as representatives of France, Germany and the United Kingdom, after meeting Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow.
Russia’s State Duma elections are scheduled for September 18-20.
The Kremlin, for its part, has not ruled out the resumption of trilateral talks between Russia, the United States and Ukraine, noting that it is still too early to discuss the timing and venue of a meeting.
