2008 Beijing Olympic road race champion Samuel Sánchez of Spain has been named the official ambassador for the inaugural Tour d’Arménie (Tour of Armenia) race, a professional multi-stage road cycling race held in Armenia and sanctioned as a Class 2.2 event on the UCI Europe Tour.
Sánchez, who rode professionally from 2000 to 2017 for the Euskaltel–Euskadi and BMC Racing Team squads, finished in the top six of the Tour de France three times and in the top 10 of the Vuelta a España six times.
The Tour of Armenia consists of four stages, with a total distance of 587 km and 5,300 meters of elevation gain.
The routes are: Gavar-Mets Masrik, Kirants-Stepanavan, Martuni-Dilijan/Parz Lake, and Yerevan.
The Tour of Armenia will be held in Armenia from September 10 to 13.
Sánchez will arrive in Armenia for the event.
