Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has appointed Kristina Tataryan and Anna Babajanyan as deputy ministers of education, science, culture and sport.
The decisions were published by the government on Wednesday.
Tataryan studied in the United Kingdom. From 2010 to 2014, she studied at Dean Close School. From 2015 to 2018, she studied English Literature at Durham University, earning a bachelor’s degree. In 2020-2021, she studied Literary Translation at the University of East Anglia, earning a master’s degree.
As part of her master’s thesis, Tataryan studied the creative and linguistic aspects of translating Narine Abgaryan’s collection “Continue to Live.” During her master’s studies, she translated Hovhannes Tumanyan’s short story “Gikor” from Armenian into English, adapting it into a dramatic work accompanied by critical commentary.
Tataryan began her professional career at Ernst & Young (EY) in 2017. From 2018 to 2019, she worked at the United Nations office in Armenia as an expert, participating in programs of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
From 2019 to 2020, she worked as a translator at Synergy International Systems, participating in a project to develop and implement software solutions in the justice sector for government agencies. From 2021 to 2024, she served as editor for Armenia at Asymptote Journal, an international publication focused on literary translation. From 2022 to 2026, she served as executive director of A-Trend, a company engaged in the distribution and market development of international brands.
Tataryan was born in 1996 in Kyiv, Ukraine.
Babajanyan was born in Yerevan in 1993. From 2010 to 2014, she studied Linguistics and Intercultural Communication at Yerevan State University, earning a bachelor’s degree. From 2014 to 2016, she continued her studies at the American University of Armenia, earning a master’s degree in Teaching English as a Foreign Language. From 2017 to 2018, she studied at the University of Cambridge, earning an MPhil in Education with a specialization in Globalization and International Development.
From 2015 to 2017, Babajanyan worked as an English teacher at Anania Shirakatsy Lyceum. From 2016 to 2017, she also taught at the American University of Armenia’s Open Education program in Dilijan.
From 2018 to 2019, she was involved in the C3QA Erasmus+ program, which aimed to promote the internationalization of research, and served as an assistant to the deputy minister of education. From 2019 to 2020, she was a member of the governing board of Yerevan’s No. 161 Basic School.
From 2019 to 2022, Babajanyan was involved as a coordinating expert in the working group that developed the new state general education standard under the World Bank’s EU4Innovation program. In 2020, she worked as a strategic analyst at the Foundation for Armenian Science and Technology (FAST).
From 2021 to 2022, she coordinated HSBC Armenia’s “Quality Professionals for Quality Jobs” program at the American University of Armenia’s Open Education division. In 2022, she participated as a national consultant in the work of the Transforming Education Summit within the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office in Armenia.
From 2022 to 2026, Babajanyan headed Yerevan State University’s Center for Strategic Planning. From 2023 to 2026, she was also a member of the working group of the “KPI4HE” Erasmus+ program.
